I don't really understand it either, but I think it's fine as long as they kept focusing on developing and adding to the death/execution aspect. No need to bite more than they can chew.

Being able to import custom characters is good enough for me.

And besides, I'd want more devs working on games like this. We're starving for content enough as it is.
