An armed society is a polite society. People see enough gruesome death, and some primitive part of their brain quietly flips over from "screeching fuckwad" to "helpful and considerate" because, historically, the ones who didn't respond that way, who continued to escalate pointless arguments when blood was already on the ground, tended to produce fewer children.
