There have been a few stories out there that have dealt with snuff in a school setting. Such as Miss Evan's Student Teacher (a story recently mentioned in another thread) or another story I read here that would snuff a student that failed a certain end of year test.

I have been pondering the idea of building a world that would have something like this in it that has a different feel than those 2 stories. The former is almost entirely Non-Consensual or at least reluctant. Though there is at least one that is mostly consensual. The second is more reluctant than anything as they don't really 'fight back' against it, but don't necessarily enjoy it either.

So, I came up with an idea.... a world where this might be a little more consensual, in some cases even "eager" with a more casual snuff feel to it as well.

So here’s the world I have in mind… just the basics really, how it all came about is a mystery of 100s of years ago, perhaps even a 1000 years ago. The why just doesn’t matter anymore, what matters is the reality that females are exceptionally fertile now, but the ratio of male to female births is somewhere around 1 in 25. Though males aren’t exactly ‘rare’ given the fertility of women have had birth rates rise drastically. Most women will give birth to 1 baby each year, rather than before the change an average couple would typically have 2 or 3 during their lifetime.

Child bearing was also affected by the fact that a female doesn’t start to ovulate at the onset of puberty, but rather several years later. This has the effect of not being able to bear children until the age of 16. While this does have some variation, births before the age of 16 are exceptionally rare, and not starting until after the age of 19 is almost unheard of. This fertile period for a female will typically last until their early 30s, giving each female that is not abstinent from the age of fertility the likelihood of giving birth to between 15 and 20 babies if they do not pass before their 35th birthday.

Contraceptives are no longer reliably effective. While they work for some small percentage of females, like 15-20%, even for that group it’s only about 80% effective. In essence, a female is simply fertile or they are not. The one thing they can count on though is a ‘recovery period’ after a giving birth, as females do not seem to be able to conceive for approximately 3 months. The only other sure thing to stop a female from getting pregnant is a hysterectomy, but this has far greater complications now than it did before the change. (And it wasn’t without complications then)

So how do you go about controlling population that could explode like this? Abortions were considered, of course, and while that is still a thing in this world, it’s not really meant as a population control as it just produces more pregnancies in the long run. Someone proposed the question of wouldn’t it be better to see a girl’s potential before culling? Instead of abortion or some more random system of culling, why not determine a girl’s potential and then make a choice. It was widely agreed that while there was no way to really gauge potential perfectly, it would be better to give a child a chance to prove their worth in school rather than randomly being selected.

After debate and discussion, it was decided that the schools would be the best place to handle culling, removing children with behavioral issues or couldn’t make the grade. It was generally agreed that the children would need a few years to get settled before potential could even be guessed at and as such the method that was eventually reached was that cullings would be handled starting at grade 3 and going through graduation of high school, grade 12. (US Grades, so ages 8-18)

Now the world could go a LOT of different directions from here. Would this be something the population at large (and specifically the children IN the program) would not like but accept as necessary? Would they accept it and even embrace it as their societal obligation? Would there be those that actually enjoyed the idea of it?

I think the answer is any number of those is likely true in the world as a whole. Even spread in certain areas, however, any story that I write in this world will have generally come to accept it, not just as necessary but as a girl’s purpose in life. A girl will strive to be good enough to grow up and be a contributor to society, but know that she is effectively disposable. In fact some will look forward to being culled and want it.

The world will have developed for the stories I have in mind, but there would be a lot of history that could be written… I could say if you like the idea of any of this so far and want to write something in it, go ahead. (a nod to where you got the idea would be fun though)
