I think that Emily would freak out if she was there to watch Kayla coughing up blood and gore all over the place. That would have made her difficult to work with afterwards! I also had the very minor sub-plot going with a little action between Emily and Kayla, that couldn't really happen if they were in a room with other people.

I see what you mean though, and maybe in a more "vanilla" story, where everything goes to plan and there is little pain involved, they might just get prepped and cooked together. For this story though, I don't think it would have worked, which you also commented.
