I had a thought while doing a bit of writing recently. Up to now I've always posted in large chunks, either a whole short story or a whole chapter of a longer story at once. Several of the writers here instead post in smaller chunks, just that days writing, and it adds up to a whole story over time. The smaller chunks seem like they might generate more reader comments. This theory does have holes though, 'The Last Field Trip' and 'School Festival' have both gotten many comments while the stories in this thread have gotten very few, and the chapter length is pretty similar between them all. Also the comment ratio is pretty similar on AO3, so these stories could just not have as much readership.

Regardless though, I thought there would be no harm in asking how people prefer to read stories, and whether they think post length is a significant factor for readership and user comments.
