Yeah I totally get what you mean and it's very hard to make that part as interesting as the build-up. Exploring how a girl feels about being eaten and the plans is easier and more fun to write for sure. I think this is why I generally favour live-cooking even if it's not so realistic - it keeps my protagonists as active characters in the story for longer. Like you said, once they're dead, they're just a thing rather than a character and when other writers have introduced ghosts at the ends of their stories to get past this problem it often feels a little forced and strange.
