The idea of it being survival-focused is an interesting one, but I do want the island littered with weapons for more fun ways to snuff. The background as a survival show makes for a good explanation as to how it all got started though, & I imagine the showrunners would deflect criticism of the increasing levels of brutality on display by saying "the contestants don't have to kill anyone, they simply choose to! they could just survive on their own & still win!" There would be few animals and no eatable plants on the island though, so hunting & foraging aren't options. You either have to find one of the very few rations hidden away on the island… or eat your fallen competitors. Of course, most people opt to try to win quickly enough hunger doesn't become a factor.
