>>Sally

"57...58...59..."

Sally could still hear Billy counting to 100 over the PA system as she sought out a place to hide. It was raining on the first day of school and so recess was being held indoors. Most of the kids in Mrs. Smith's 3rd grade class wanted to play hide & seek and so far Sally had run the fastest and the farthest, determined to show them all that she was the best ever. She'd even managed to leave the classrooms and the hallways behind, having found a door left ajar that had led her down into the basement. There were brooms and mops and old desks that were broken but so far she hadn't seen any really good places to hide.

Rounding a corner into a warm room she found that most of the space was occupied by a huge metal box with bits that split off like thick branches which then disappeared into the ceiling. She was going to see if there was a place big enough hide behind it when she saw the little door on the side. It was small, so small that even a kid like her would have to bend over slightly to get through, and Sally wondered what was inside. Pulling on the soot covered handle the door protested with the sound of metal scraping on metal but then it popped opened to reveal a downward chute into a chamber filled with fire.

"71...72...73..."

Feeling the heat hit her face Sally realized that this was the perfect spot, nobody would ever find her in there. Seeing how dirty the chute was Sally quickly pulled her new floral dress over her head so that her mom wouldn't get mad. Folding it neatly she placed it with her shoes, socks and panties just behind the furnace where they would be found by the janitor several days later.

"97...98...99..."

Balancing at the top of the chute Sally grabbed the inside of the door so she could close it behind her. Sweat from the intense heat was making her little butt all slippery and so it was easy to go down the ramp just like the playground slide and right into the scorching flames. She could feel herself roasting alive but smiled proudly knowing that everyone would say that Sally Smith was the best hide & seek player ever!

>> Tristan and Kristen

Free time at the swimming pool was a sea of chaos for Mrs. Smith's class. Between all the splashing and telling kids not to run there was far too much for one teacher to keep an eye on at once. Over in one corner of the shallow end three little children seemed to at least be quite and well behaved. Little Sophia broke the surface of the water and immediately began to gloat about her ability to stay underwater longer than either Kristen or her twin brother Tristan had.

The twins were not happy about losing and it was Kristen who immediately demanded a rematch. They'd already played through every pairing of the three of them and while Kristen had beaten Tristan it was Sophia who had handily beaten them both. Sophia was quick to rub it in which almost drove Kristen to tears but her brother stepped in and argued until eventually Sophia gave in and agreed to one final match, winner takes all.

With a squeal of delight Kristen gave her brother a grateful hug and then she and Sophia followed his count of three before taking a deep breath and plunging underwater. Tristan watched as the two held their breath, Sophia in her lavender one piece that went so well with her blonde hair and his sister in her red frilly top and bottom. At first they both seemed to be doing well but then Kristen started to fidget and it was clear she was struggling to stay under.

Knowing that this was his sister's last chance to win Tristan did what he could to help by placing his hands on her shoulders and shifting his weight onto her. Her fidgeting became more pronounced but she didn't try to escape, her twin sense telling her what a good idea this was. Sophia was doing her best, her ability to hold her breath being truly stunning for an eight year old, but Tristan kept Kristen down even as bubbles escaped her lips and she began to shake and spasm from accidentally inhaling water.

Finally Sophia could hold her breath no longer and broke the surface gasping for air. By now Kristen had gone slack and with the water in her lungs she simply sunk to the bottom. Sophia was furious but as Tristan smugly pointed out his sister had indeed stayed underwater longer than Sophia and so Kristen was the clear winner.

>> Claire, Sophia and Piper

Claire pointed to something and Sophia eagerly looked through the other eyepiece of the coin operated binoculars while Claire let Piper switch and look through her own. Mrs. Smith had taken her class on a fieldtrip and they were now at the top of one of the tallest buildings in the city. The three girls were sharing some of the money their parents had given them for the trip to use the telescopic lookout on the observation deck. You could see for miles and miles and they were all having a great time spotting places they knew.

But behind them Tristan and Billy had bought a bouquet of daisies at the gift shop and they noticed how the two boys went to each girl in their class and offered them a flower. When a girl accepted it they leaned in and kissed both of her cheeks at the same time. Sophia still didn't like Tristan and Claire and Piper both agreed that boys were icky and gross. They quickly decided that they had to find a way to escape before Tristan and Billy got to them or they'd risk getting cooties.

Taking advantage of their slim bodies to slip between the bars guarding the observation deck the three girls joined hands as they stood at the edge where their hair was whipped about by the wind. With a coordinated push they jumped off with over fifty stories of clear space between them and the ground. Gleefully Claire, Eva and Piper shouted "No Boys Ever!' as they sailed through the air and a few seconds later their small bodies splattered across the street below.
