Nicely done! I agree that anything more pre-meditated would have required a larger set of changes, but this is fine. It's such a small addition, yet it accomplishes a lot and I think it fits very neatly alongside the context of their final conversation... It's still bittersweet, but this way it's definitely less bitter.
