Yes, I agree that we can make assumptions but it would be still nice to see how actually amused they are. Your stories have the same problem.
I would recommend more dialogue and more talking rather than narration.
Rather than saying "Maia's chest was a bleeding bruise" let her describe herself what is happening to express how does it feel. As now I have no clue what even to think about the fact that chest is bleeding does she like it? does she hate it? does it annoy her?
To show emotions you use interjections and dialogue rather than blunt narration and this makes story much better

rather than desorbing "The handlebars consisted of six razor blades sticking out in a cylinder." why not let characters to describe all that themselves during some discussion? This will allow to use interjections to show what they think about it.
for example
"wow! look at those handlebars!"
"yea... those razorblades look sharp"
later depending on what they expects they can say something like
"that will nicely cut my hands" or "it will be fun" or "holly smokes it is gonna hurt well" or "Hehe, I bet you will cry like a baby once you grab them"
