You're making it sound like if it's about pleasing my own taste versus pleasing everyone else's. But the reality is it's pleasing myself + all the people who's taste happens to agree with mine versus pleasing you + all the people who's taste happens to agree with yours. So whichever I choose I get to please one group of people and displease the other, only in one case I also get to please my own self along the way and in the other I don't. Looks like a pretty obvious choice to me.
