You're missing the part where they acknowledge that it is nonsense and derive fun from that very fact.

Although I'd rather say that it's not the suffering itself that they enjoy so much, but the way they are able to purposely do things that go against their own earnest desires, the agency it expresses.

It's the other way around: when they want to feel a certain way they consume art that makes them feel that way. When a person wants to laugh they watch a comedy, when they want to cry they watch a drama. When they want a guro story about characters happily killing themselves for nonsensical reasons reveling in the fact that it makes no sense, they go read my stories, and when they want a guro story about girls happily becoming meat because they want the eaters to enjoy their taste they go read Edward's stories.
What my stories fail in is to make people feel the way YOU want my stories to make them feel. But have it occurred to you that maybe the way I want them to feel is different from the way you want them to feel?
