The reason why I assumed that Skye may also die is because they were preparing for the show with Dinah together and by the way they talk it is reasonable to expect that both will face similar ending. Also that response where Dinah suggested to swap their roles shows that they are sort of equal.
At the beginning since only 2 characters were introduced I assumed they will do some kind of show with usual ending.

And of course the fact that your characters rarely survive too especially in the situation like this has some importance too :)
Although judging from the story title I admit that she is not supposed to die, but that's the reason for the usual story twist :) because not just in your stories but in many other movies and hentai torturer usually offer herself to audience

The problem is not so much in execution method, which is all fine, but rather the fact that Skye executed her friend in the beginning after so much planning and preparation. So, while being quite special person she was just used and cheap disposable character.

It woud make much more sense if they executed other prisoners first maybe even working together and in the very end Skye executes her friend which makes it so special. Also rather than just random whipping that torture could be presented as interrogation.
It is a bit surprising that Skye did not use that excuse for torture at all.
