Like in that early scene in Looper? Or maybe more like Legacy of Kain where history rewrites itself around every paradox, trying to change as little as possible, while the person changing things retains memories of all timelines. Maybe a paradox that cannot be reconciled- Like the past version being killed by the future one- Results in a reset to an earlier timeline. Or erases them both entirely like they never existed.

A small device replaces a head, attaching to the severed spine and containing a computer to fully control the body with, and discreet sensors. Severed blood vessels are connected with one another to maintain circulation and covered with either silicone or the body's skin made to grow and heal, leaving only the windpipe and esophagus as openings, the latter probably closable by the device. The tongue might be retained as well. The device is programmed for sophisticated behaviors to make the body take care of itself and service its owners.
