Onyx's comments are interesting but taken poorly, as in this was an extremely cereberal piece and onyx responded in a similar manner. As in this piece was a setting or foundation, and the response is playing into potential problems of the setting; a good place for conflict for the little information we know so far.
The population crash Onyx is predicting is a real problem that can occur from declining birthrates, and without something to counter balance it the society will become predominantly the elderly unless fertility is increased, which under a malthusian crisis is the exact opposite of the solution the 'scientists' were going for.
tl;dr: If you do not want to deal with the long term implications of your setting's choices set your story in the short term and ignore the above.
