I think you overestimate the role of 'boredom' in any society. And it doesn't make sense to use 'perversion' as if that was somehow an objective term. One society's 'perversion' is absolutely normal, maybe even expected or required in another society.

Well, this book shows there were indeed a few societies where human flesh was cooked in public and eaten at large public celebrations, without anyone disapproving of or sanctioning such acts. Another well-known case where human flesh was eaten publicly and with general approval was among the Aztecs, though that society is not covered in the book.

But if such acts had also happened elsewhere, say in Ancient Rome or Egypt, it seems fairly probably that some traces of them would have survived in the historical record. Which doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to these society (as far as I know).

As for the antisemitic myths of Jewish child murder and cannibalism, these are of course baseless ancient accusations that were first raised against the early Christian in the Roman Empire and then later (when Christianity had "won") became redirected towards the Jews.

Depending on which part of Africa that was, I certainly wouldn't rule some such incident out. There are similar reports in the book here, and I've also heard of other such cases that seem well-documented and credible enough. Though one must not forget that a human body provides a LOT of meat, so if they really ate a whole women all by themselves, it must have been a large group of Soviets. The most doubtful part is probably why they should have accepted the offer at all (less so that it was made), considering that cannibalism was never an accepted practice in the Soviet Union.

I suppose you mean Fritz Haarmann, known as "the Butcher of Hanover." That's actually a very well known case, though it happened after WW1. You can read about him in Wikipedia.

Yeah, that happened too. In fact, cannibalism has been documented for many severe famines, including this one. And that's not surprising. Rather than starving themselves, desperate people will eat ANYTHING that's even remotely edible (including shoes and such), and human flesh is certainly edible enough.
