There's nothing saying he didn't do just that. But it's outside the scope of this story. The story follows Rin's perspective, so it ends along with herself.
Also I wrote it for this particular picture, and while it ended up not matching it all that well (like the playground and the twins' mom in the background having nothing to do with the story), it still had to have at least something in common. And I also already had a different picture where both the twins' severed heads were kissing each other, although that one didn't have an accompanying story.

Yes, that's a good point. At some point I actually had a paragraph break there, but there was only one line in that paragraph, so I decided I didn't want it hanging and connected it back to the rest of the text. But then I prolonged it to a few lines, so now I agree I should separate it again. I'll go do that on pixiv and ATF.
