Balloon Ride
(Vocaloid, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, consensual, casual, falling from height)

As the hot air balloon went higher and higher into the sky, Rin and Len couldn’t contain their excitement. They leaned over the side of the basket, gazing out at the world below with wonder and awe. They laughed and joked with each other, their voices carrying on the wind. Such an idyll.

Then suddenly something went wrong. The balloon began to sag, losing altitude at an alarming rate. Whatever was the cause, the twins weren’t afraid. For them such a development only made the ride all more thrilling. Together they were throwing away the sandbags as if it was an amusing game. But as all the ballast was gone, including even all the clothes the twins had had on themselves and now shed, there was just a little bit more weight the balloon needed to lose to stop its fatal descent. That’s when Rin turned to Len and grinned, her eyes bright with excitement.

“You know what kind of situation this is?” she asked.

“A deadly one?” Len guessed.

“It’s a kind of situation where one of us has to sacrifice their life to save the other!” said Rin dreamily. “It’s so romantic!”

“Ha! You’re right!” Len’s eyes widened with glee. “But you know what would be even better?”

“What could possibly be better?” Rin wondered.

“Each of us should jump to save the other,” Len pointed out, “then we’ll save both of us!”

“I love it!” Rin laughed. “Let’s do it!”

And with that, the twins leapt from the basket. As their bodies plummeted through the air, the twins whooped and hollered, and the wind carried their laughter across the whole sky. Rin and Len looked back at the balloon, which had indeed stopped descending and was now rising once again towards the great blue expanse. The twins pumped their fists in the air, ecstatic at their ingenuity.

“We did it!” shouted Rin. “We saved both of us!”

“And in the most romantic way!” replied Len. “With the cost of our…”

Thud! By looking up into the sky the twins never saw the impact coming, and before they knew it, they were nothing more than mangled remains lying twisted and broken in the grass. Only the balloon, oblivious to their fate, continued to soar up into the heavens as if on the twins’ behalf. Of course, it can’t stay up there forever and eventually would also return to the ground. But it would only happen for others, not for Rin or Len. For them their joy was never over.
