"Letting characters act on free will" is one writing technique, but not the only existent one. Also, "any desires and motivation" genuinely does include Aoi's stuff. People are often illogical! That's normal! Logic takes effort and skill and nobody expends enough of the former and has enough of the latter all the time!

YOu copied the exact quote from Aoi's text that didn't have the words you used anywhere in it. That's why I'm objecting: because you are saying a thing that is untrue somehow.

Aoi's characters don't revive the next day. Maybe in your personal imagination they do, but not in the text Aoi has written. Instead think of it as many branching timelines: Rin1 has died, Rin2 has died, and every time Aoi writes a new story Rin(n+1) is generated. It's like that warehouse cleanup story where Asuka and Shinji help kill Rei's clones: Rei isn't reviving after each kill, there's just a lot of her. It's exactly like my infinite girls who die at the end of every story only for a new one to come in for the next one, it's just that I write them all to have different names, personality, appearance etc, while Aoi writes them all to be the same.

We're going back to subtext and context. Your format gives the readers the impression that they revive every time without stating it explicitly - the characters act as if nothing is permanent. Aoi's format implies that every death is final, as do characters' thoughts and the explicit lack of continuity - other characters' attitudes are even different between stories.

It's a reading comprehension issue, like I said. You're missing a layer of information and insisting it's not there; it is.

They are different characters. They're identical, but they're a new individual each time.
