Only one critique: I can't believe it didn't end with her being reborn into two copies of herself (one from each of the divided brain hemispheres), who could then have fun with each other. I dunno, maybe it's just because I had a somewhat similar idea at some point, but it felt like it was totally leading to that, especially given how the story practically repeated cutting in half, but the second time making sure to also cut the brain. You could then even play with an idea of the resulting pair of twins having somewhat different personalities based on specializations of brain hemispheres. And just as a funny thought: maybe that's how phoenixes procreate in the first place, she just forgot :-)
