My thought was last minute touch ups to the olympic flame, where she does not properly secure herself and falls off while working on it, but manages to barely grab the edge.
Maybe for some reason she's in a nacelle that takes her a bit away from the platform where the others are standing, so they can't really join up with her until she's let go.
honestly, I hadn't thought so in to many details about that part and mostly went with "here's the situation, where does this lead to ?"
