I agree with not being turned on by toddler stuff, but I don't think it's there just for shock value.

I think it fits pretty well within the setting, and fits the theme; it's obvious that the mc is just kinda going through life, looking at the present situation, and just doing whatever strikes his fancy.

In a story like that, you should assume that anyone who's even mentioned is a potential snuffee
