Chapter 5: Lily's Grating Performance
Lily Chen, star of the Drama Club, approached the next phase of the obstacle course with a swagger in her chocolatey step. Unlike her competitors, who had shown various degrees of embarrassment about their nude chocolate forms, Lily reveled in the attention. She struck poses as she walked, eliciting cheers and whistles from the crowd.
"Now this is what I call a captive audience," Lily purred, blowing kisses to her adoring fans.
As she reached the next obstacle, Lily's chocolate eyes widened with a mix of surprise and excitement. Before her stood an enormous circular slide, spiraling down several stories. However, this was no ordinary playground equipment – the entire surface was covered in what appeared to be cheese grater-like protrusions of varying sizes and sharpness.
Principal Thornberry's voice crackled over the loudspeaker: "Contestants, this is the Grater Slide of Doom. Please proceed with caution and strategy. Remember, slow and steady—"
But Lily had stopped listening. Her dramatic instincts had kicked into high gear, and she saw an opportunity for the performance of a lifetime.
"Caution? Strategy? Darling, where's the drama in that?" Lily scoffed, tossing her chocolate hair. "The audience came here for a show, and a show they shall have!"
Without further ado, Lily sprinted towards the slide, ignoring the gasps from the crowd and the exasperated sigh from Principal Thornberry. As she reached the top, she turned to face her audience, striking a pose worthy of a Hollywood starlet.
"Watch closely, darlings," she called out, her voice rich and smooth as ganache. "This is how a true star makes an entrance!"
With that, Lily flung herself onto the slide, face-first and arms outstretched, as if diving into a pool. For a brief moment, she looked graceful, her chocolate form glistening in the fading sunlight.
Then she hit the first section of the grater slide.
The effect was immediate and dramatic. As Lily slid down at high speed, the cheese grater surface began to shave off layers of her chocolate body. She let out a yelp of surprise, which quickly turned into a stream of theatrical gasps and exclamations.
"Oh! Ah! The pain! The agony! The... wait, it doesn't actually hurt?" Lily's surprise was genuine as she realized that while she could feel the grating sensation, there was no real pain involved.
However, her relief was short-lived as she noticed the significant amount of chocolate shavings piling up behind her. Looking down, Lily saw with horror that her once-voluptuous chocolate figure was being rapidly whittled away.
"No, not the curves!" she cried out dramatically. "They're my best feature!"
As Lily continued her rapid descent, the different sections of the slide took their toll. Coarser grates removed larger chunks, while finer ones created a smooth finish. By the time she reached the halfway point, Lily's entire front side had been grated away, leaving her internal structures exposed.
"Well, this is one way to bare it all for my audience," Lily quipped, trying to maintain her composure as she watched her licorice intestines unravel and trail behind her like a bizarre streamer.
The crowd watched in a mix of horror and fascination as Lily's chocolate body was systematically shredded. Her dramatic cries and running commentary echoed across the field, turning the gruesome spectacle into a bizarre one-woman show.
As she neared the bottom of the slide, Lily realized that her showboating had come at a steep price. Her once curvaceous chocolate form had been reduced to a flat, featureless plank. Every part of her that had made her distinctly feminine had been grated away, leaving her looking more like a chocolate board than a person.
Lily finally came to a stop at the bottom of the slide, leaving a trail of chocolate shavings and licorice bits in her wake. She lay there for a moment, dazed and dramatically splayed out.
"And scene," she mumbled weakly, raising one arm in a feeble attempt at a theatrical flourish.
As the medical team rushed to her aid, Lily struggled to sit up, surveying what was left of her chocolate body. The irony of her situation wasn't lost on her.
"Well, darlings," she addressed the stunned crowd, her voice slightly hollow due to her missing front, "I wanted to give you all something to look at, and now there's nothing left to see. Talk about a plot twist!"
Principal Thornberry's voice came over the loudspeaker once again, a mix of concern and exasperation evident in her tone: "Ms. Chen, while your performance was... memorable, I must remind all contestants that this is a race, not an audition for 'Chocolate: The Musical'."
As she was carefully lifted onto a stretcher, Lily managed a weak smile. "Chocolate: The Musical? Now there's an idea. I wonder if Andrew Lloyd Webber is taking pitches..."
And with that, Lily was carried off the field, her dreams of victory grated away but her theatrical spirit undiminished. The remaining contestants looked at each other nervously, wondering what other sweet and terrible obstacles awaited them in this most unusual of races.
