I'm going to throw out an insane theory for funsies. The two males we've met so far have been rather emotionally grounded and mostly normal. However, the females we've met have been on an emotional roller coaster see sawing between their snuff bunny tendencies and their own natural self preservation. It almost feels like they might think that the snuff bunny tendency and the world built around it is "wrong." Given that your world takes place in the future, social conditioning, or even out right brain washing would not be too far fetched. So it stands to reason that the only reason why women and girls would deny their own natural instincts to stay alive (and breed) is due to some level of brain washing. If this is the case, then the emotional swings I've been seeing in the women would make sense as they struggle with the cognitive disconnect. And the men are mostly unaffected as they're much less brain washed. Of course, there has been no real indications of this happening and is just a wild thought I wanted to throw out there. But that communicator you introduced that all women have, even naked ones, could be a tool with additional nefarious purposes...

The theory reminded me of a story I read a long time ago where an ancient entity possess the body of random women utterly and pretends to be them while working on their agenda. The mind of the vessel is forced to watch in horror as someone wearing her body and using her hands commits atrocities to her loved ones and can only scream into the void. Until one day, the son of the vessel's was about to be killed and for a moment, the mother was able to break through the entity's hold and sacrifice herself to save her child with the help of every other mother and their stolen families. But it was for just a moment, and the entity moved on to another vessel to continue her agenda and the mother became another faceless voice screaming into the void.

Just some rambling thoughts to say that I'm really enjoying this story and world building. I'm especially enjoying the doubt over Natalie's final fate and how folks are questioning if it's alright to harvest a girl when it's your own girl, whom you love very much.
