Just speaking for myself here, the male snuff scene was startling because there was no indication that it was possible. All the other gore and casual mistreatment up to that point had been focused on women / girls, so I had assumed that men were never killed so casually in your world.

My advice would be to continue writing exactly the kind of story you like to write, but I think it would be polite to put something in the tags at the start to clue readers in to whether to expect the victims to be male, female, or both.
