Close to what I thought, then 😁 Now please don't take this as a criticism, it is part of my habit of wanting to know exactly how a fictional world works, habit I think you share given the effort you've gone to with this thread! But I have a slight issue with an aspect of Riley's story.
While it works great for drama within the story and to create a sense of danger and threat for a character who is resigned to dying in a few days anyway, the idea that the neighbour would face no legal consequences for raping her creates a bit of an in-universe problem:
While I fully accept the idea of Animals having no legal rights of personhood, surely certain things would lead to issues in the meat supply chain as discussed above? Removing Age of Consent laws for Animals so youngers like Riley can have a bit of fun in their final days is one thing but allowing anyone to use them however they wise, consequence-free, carries a lot of contamination risk. I'm sure the authorities would not be best pleased if a fresh little cutie like Riley turned up for processing with bruised meat, some cracked ribs, a torn pussy and a shiny new batch of STDs? There should surely still be some laws around who can do what to an Animal, not for their own sake but to protect the quality of the meat? Not quite sure what the solution could be... Riley is young and naive so could believe that he would get away with it but perhaps, when she and her mum come home from the spa, her dad could have researched it and found that the neighbour could have got himself in deep trouble? Just my early morning rambling thoughts - off to read Chapter Ten now 😁
