Yangtao is from Busan, Korea. The company had paid her a severance package. After seven years, still being a "manager" was considered not ambitious enough by Korean standards. Yangtao could have taken the money and opened a small shop. Or she could have used it to bridge the gap until she found another job, with uncertain outcomes in both cases. Yangtao's plan, however, was different, and she had carried it with her since she entered the workforce at the age of 14. Back then, a successful climb up the career ladder was "Plan A." A trip to Aokigahara Forest or to the Mapo Bridge in Seoul was "Plan B." The bullying at the company began three years ago, and Plan B became Plan A. The severance package, along with her savings, now enabled her to make her greatest dream a reality. She will die by suicide in Aokigahara Forest on her 21st birthday. Immediately after leaving the personnel office, she visited the travel agency she knew. It wasn't the first time they had organized a trip to the Fujikyu Highland Amusement Park. And they knew that Aokigahara Forest was only a three-hour walk away. As Yangtao handed her credit card to the employee, she knew she had lost another customer. The girl standing before her would be dead in a few days, and she had already scheduled the appointments.

Yangtao didn't need long to sort out her personal affairs. The termination of her one-room apartment was sent by email, and the rent would continue for another three months. The security deposit would allow the landlord to clear out the apartment without any financial loss. She traveled by high-speed train to the airport in Seoul, and from there to Tokyo. There she bought a tent and took the Fujikyu Railway to the final stop, Kawaguchiko Station.

The station greeted her with a sunny day, and even the view of Japan's sacred mountain was clear. She gathered her strength at a signpost for the three-hour hike ahead.
