I rather like the fact that Riley won't know her fate until she attends the processing centre. I'm sure in-universe there are "supply & demand" factors which mean the chances of being assigned as a companion rather than processed for meat are better than others! Will you be exploring the application process for people who want/need a companion animal? I'm guessing it works a bit like service dogs in our world?
