I find I write two different types of story. One is a straight-forward story following a character's journey, the other (such as my recent "Desperately Seeking Sidney") uses the narrative as a sort of framing-device for the world-building which is what I think you did with this one. Now that your world is very clearly established, it should be easier and more fun for you to create short stories that fit within your established world. Hope the writing becomes fun for you again - I know it loses all pleasure when it starts feeling like an obligation! *Hugs*
