Your answer made me lookup the lemma "Stew"[1] on the Wikipedia. There are surprisingly many stews listed. The Germans seem to have the most entries for their national and local stews (germ. "Eintopf", engl. "One Pot"), followed by the Frenchmen. Notable is the Hungarian version which is one of the national dishes and a symbol of the country. Not only comes it as stew (Goulash, Hungarian: gulyás[3]) or as soup (Goulash Soup, Hungarian: gulyásleve)[2]) which differ mainly in the amount of water used in preparation, it also has despite its national character a huge number of local variants. One of them is Székelykáposzta[4] a stew made with sauerkraut[5] instead of potatoes and not named after a location as the most stews but after a person ‒ the Hungarian writer, journalist and archivist József Székely (1825–1895)[6][7][8].

It's very probably not the evolution that expands the life span. The life span indeed seems to grow. But that's only a matter of statistic. Researches showed that the human body is "constructed" for an average of round about 60 to 80 years. This was true even in ancient times. Because the old days had more dangers people were dying mostly before they reached that age. Infant mortality, carnivores, diseases, famines, accidents, inflammations ‒ all the things we can easily cure today were harmful and deadly. Methuselah for sure wasn't 900 years. But even with "only" 90 he might have appeared like it to the others.
