Sorry for a late response but it took me a while to browse through your stories and of course I read those that appealed to me (I at least peeked at all).

That is certainly true. It reads like a fairy tale from Brothers Grimm. The style is very similar, so I think it fits the story perfectly.

Do you know Christopher Nolan's 2006 movie "The Prestige"[1], based on the 1995 novel with the same name[2] by Christopher Priest, starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson and David Bowie? Movie and novel are like a template for your (short) story, only a little less bloody but with more deaths. I don't know the book, but the movie is absolutely worth viewing.
