    Possibly silly question but how to view these files? None of my media players can run it, googlefu says VLC should suffice and whilst i can hear sound, got no video.

    That's just a simple flash animation file. Try to open it with Internet Explorer or Edge. I think Chrome and Firefox got rid of Flash support.
