It was a dirty war. The fight for survival usually is. After the third world war the earth was in a terrible state. Everybody had predicted that all life on earth would cease, but that was not the case. Those that survived were participating in living hell, and another war broke out, this time an unknown leader had taken advantage of the fact that all the great powers had destroyed each other and now he was raising armies and taking over what was left of the Earth or at least, that which was worth having.

After years of soldiering for the dictator, I was called in to the HQ one day and sat in front of a bunch of the senior officers. They talked to me about my war record, and specifically how I seemed to enjoy killing civilians who were deemed to be enemies of the state. Yes, it was true, I was loyal to the dictator and had no problem killing people who refused to swear allegiance to her when we conquered their territories. They showed me pictures that had been taken as I moved amongst a pit full of people of all ages from one village, putting bullets into the brains of those that had survived the machine-gunnings that put them into the pit in the first place.

The colonel mentioned that he had personally seen me raping a girl that was about to be shot, but he said that was OK, we men must have some outlet for our stress. He said that it even made me more suitable for the job that they were about to propose.

“There have been revolts in some cities, and we have to find a way of putting them down. We are going to set up isolation camps for all who take part in these riots, where we will identify all the criminals and collect their family members to be executed with them. I didn't buy this series to translate it but when I found out, starting with the third chapter of the first volume, that is must be ground zero for a lot of guro fetishes (this was published between 1980 and 1982) I realized it had to be translated.

There is also a live-action film based on this manga, directed by Toshiharu Ikeda in 1980, but other than the most basic setting it has nothing in common with the source material. Even the character names are different.
