There were no guards at the gate—only a heavy, oppressive sense of being watched by a thousand unseen eyes.

He had expected traps, or perhaps a gauntlet of mindless thralls, but the interior of the castle was unsettlingly pristine. Their figures were lush and exaggerated, with heavy breasts that strained against the thin fabric. Through the translucent material, the dark, metallic glint of heavy piercings in their nipples was clearly visible, catching the dim torchlight as they shifted their weight. They didn't look frightened; they looked amused, as if a stray dog had somehow wandered into a royal banquet.

"You’re a long way from the valley, hunter," the woman in the center purred, her voice a low, melodic vibration that seemed to echo in the obsidian floors. She stepped forward, the silk of her gown rippling over her hips, her gaze lingering on Kaelen’s travel-worn gear with a look of genuine pity.

Kaelen didn’t feel the intimidation they were projecting. He had faced chimeric horrors in the deep woods and survived the crushing silence of the peaks; three women, no matter how distracting their proportions or the daring transparency of their attire, were merely obstacles. However, he wasn't foolish. He knew the strength of a vampire's nobility—the way they could move faster than the human eye could track. To fight them in a chaotic scramble would be to gamble with his life. He needed to break their formation, to create a moment of sheer, blinding agony that would shatter their coordination.
