But the thing is there's no worldbuilding here, it's just "a wizard did it" unironically spelt out within the actual story.

Here's an example of worldbuilding explaining how people are fine with casual guro:
Long time ago public executions were both a form of punishment for criminals and a form of entertainment for the crowd. With advent of humanism, it was deemed too inhumane as a form of punishment... however it was hard to push for the ban of capital punishment when the crowd still demanded their entertainment. So the humanists proposed a compromise: there will still be executions held for entertaining the crowd, but instead of prisoners they will use volunteers. The logic is that since they volunteer to it, it's not inhumane. Who would volunteer though? For starters the dedicated humanists themselves, for the sake of promoting the ban of capital punishment. Then as with time this idea grows on the people, and the very idea of execution stops being associated with punishment but becomes more associated with entertainment, volunteer for execution will become seen as an entertainment job, like being a singer or actor. Indeed, singers or actors would volunteer, as essentially executions are now on par with music and movies. While entertainment was always an aspect of executions, which has led to this situation in the first place, back then it was more of a byproduct, but now entertainment becomes the first and only aspect. Volunteer death now equates to fun, and with that shift in concept more and more people find out they're actually into being snuffed, turns out it can be fun not only for the audience, but for the volunteer too. And of course more brutal = more fun, so while some will be content with standard hanging or beheading, as dying itself is fun enough, others will seek out more creative and spectacular ways to die, say some famous entertainer might consider that only the most extravagant death would fit their status. Now, I mentioned executions being on part with music and movies, and seeing how a school can have school concerts or school plays, it also becomes normal for school events to have executions. Even kids' parties will occasionally have someone volunteer to die for their friends - and their own - fun, and that's viewed as normally as when the kids are, say, singing karaoke at the party, just another fun activity. And here you have a world of casual guro without any wizarding viruses involved.

Another example is Edward Hyde's Sydneyverse.

And before you say "but what of the numbers", people don't fap to numbers. Death of one fictional character is entertainment, death of millions of fictional characters is fictional statistics, which sounds even more boring than real statistics. The world also doesn't have to have everyone dying all the time, all it has to have is death as entertainment be normalized. Then you just write about the cases where it does happen and don't write about cases where it doesn't. Just like Harry Potter can tell a story all about wizards while only a tiny fraction of its world's population are wizards.

Aoi, I wrote a whole reply to your last message and I deleted it because... well it came off as belligerent and mostly just angry. Frankly, I'm not going to argue with you on this anymore than to say your last two sentences make NO sense to me at all. The paths are talked about but none of them are actually assigned or described in the chapter. Natalie simple wants to be entertainment for her class. She knows they will enjoy it, and more importantly her teacher will.

I've already said that the world building here was rushed and didn't quite have the effect I wanted, but it worked enough to give a starting point.

Perhaps I'll write another chapter... perhaps not. We'll see. But if I do, I will be looking at students that follow those other paths as well. So, perhaps it will just be casual sex in one of the chapters...

Why are they even talked about? Who on Earth talks about it like that? Think how in our world we do have like nerds, jocks and so on, but we don't call them Paths with capitalization and talk about them like "The System said there were the Nerd Path, the Jock Path and the Delinquent Path, but the teacher knew you could also be an Athletic Nerd and of course Athletic Delinquent", or "This student showed promise in studying, but the teacher knew they were clearly leaning towards the more Athletic Path", or "Uhm, well, Sir... I think I wanna be a Jock, Sir".

I think "like a twelve year old" comes across as really harsh, Aoi, but what it DOES specifically remind me of is "Young Adult" fiction. Which is mostly written for twelve-year-olds, at least on paper, but not *by* them.

Anyway, I guess that's my criticism there. But YA is quite popular, even if dystopian YA is on the wane for a few years now, so that's not necessarily awful?
